Philadelphia, PA By Don Miller Columnist We just returned from Philadelphia. A family event
provided a good opportunity to try my new ticket. The forecast was seriously
off, as we found ourselves in the soup for 5.5 hours of the six hours to
Wings Field. The O-320 and navigation systems performed beautifully. We found
the Camp David prohibited zone expanded to 10 miles and were routed to the
west via SCAPE intersection and Martinsburg VOR rather than Victor 143 which
is just inside the 10 mile radius. We
discovered a delightful FBO at Hagerstown. Rider Jet Service is run by a guy
who had been on the receiving end for several years and now runs a posh FBO
unlike anything we have seen. The rest rooms were like a 5 Star hotel and the
pilot service area was elegant. The personal attention was again like a 5
Star hotel. The ATC
around Dulles and Philly were excellent. The return trip was only half in the
soup, but much of it between layers at 8,000'. Be warned
that most regional airports seem to have elected to isolate the FBO from the
terminal for security reasons. Our planned lunch at the Charlottesville
terminal on the return was changed to vending machines. _______________________________________________________________ Want to read more from Don Miller?
